I'm planning to create some potentially lengthy threads that require more than one sitting of work so if possible a forum where I am able to temporarily post these threads until they are finished would be great.

We're unable to make a private subforum without you having to request us to move it to the proper forum afterwards.
I think what you're trying to look for are drafts. See image below



When coming back to the page, whatever you wrote when saving the draft will re-appear. It'll disappear once you delete the draft (obviously). You can only save 1 draft at a time
