How to Claim Land with GriefDefender​

Understanding Claims​

A claim is a piece of land that you own on the server. It protects your builds and items from being destroyed or stolen by other players.

Obtaining a Golden Shovel​

You can obtain a golden shovel by claiming the "Server Items" kit through the /kits command. You'll also receive an Inspector Tool (more about that below).

Claim Blocks​

Claiming land costs "claim blocks". You can see how many claim blocks you may claim upon holding a golden shovel or typing /claim. You can buy more claim blocks by typing /buyclaimblocks which shows the price per claim block ($5) and your current balance.
You start with 1,000 claim blocks and you can have a maximum of 80,000 claim blocks. You get 120 blocks for free per hour. You can also obtain additional claim blocks through crates.

Claiming Land with a Golden Shovel​

  1. Equip the Golden Shovel: Make sure you have it in your hand.
  2. Left-Click: Right-click on the first corner of the area you want to claim.
  3. Right-Click: Right-click on the opposite corner of the area.
  4. Confirm: You'll see a confirmation message.
* You might see a message in red stating "You can't create a claim here because it would overlap an existing claim.".
In that case, you should select another region which does not overlap with your existing claim. Not sure how far that reaches out? You can use /claim and right-click the ground beneath you to see a visual representation of the claim you're standing in. You can also use the Claim Inspector tool you received when claiming the Server Items kit.

Claiming Land with the /claim Command​

  1. Open the Chat: Press 'T' to open the chat.
  2. Type /claim: This will activate claim mode.
  3. Left-Click a Corner: Right-click on the first corner of the area you want to claim.
  4. Right-Click the Opposite Corner: Right-click on the opposite corner to finalize the claim.
  5. Canceling a Claim: If you change your mind, simply type /claim again to cancel the claim process.

Expanding Your Claim​

To expand your claim, use the /expandclaim command.
  • Syntax: /expandclaim <amount> [direction]
  • Example: /expandclaim north 10 This will expand your claim 10 blocks to the north.
ℹ️ You can check the direction you're facing by using F3.
ℹ️ You can also expand your claim by toggling /claim or using a golden shovel, clicking on 1 of the corners of an already-existing claim and then clicking on the opposite corner which will then become the new border of your claim.

Deleting Your Claim​

To delete your claim, use the /abandonclaim command while standing inside your claim. This will remove your claim and free up the land for others to claim. This will also remove protection from any containers (such as chests, shulker boxes, etc.)!

  • Avoid claiming excessive amounts of land you do not need
  • Use claims wisely to protect your builds and items.
